Company from Minas sells cosmetics on the Arab market
The Arab countries are the main market for exports of hair products
and body moisturisers produced by cosmetics company SNC Cosmetic
Industry, from the city of Belo Horizonte, in the southeastern
Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. The countries of the Middle East and
North Africa represent 70% of company foreign sales. "Our main market
is the Arab. It is a very promising region," stated the export manager
at SNC, Flávio Perim.
The first company exports to the Arab market took place in 2002 and
since then sales to the region have been growing. Apart from SNC having
a distributor in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, each year the
company participates in fair Beauty World Middle East, in Dubai. "This
is going to be the third year that we participate," stated Perim.
According to him, one of the secrets for entry into the market is a
good partner. "It is our agent in Dubai who distributes our products to
the whole of the Persian Gulf and North Africa," he explained.
The main products shipped to the Arab market are one-kilogram and
230-gram hair creams. Exports also include shampoos, conditioners, oils
and gel. "Our product was very well accepted on the Arab market,"
stated Perim. According to him, this year the company is going to
launch a novelty for the Arab market: packages written in Arabic. "For
the time being our packages are going in English, which is also an
accepted language," he added.
According to Perim, the Arab countries are the main market for
cosmetics in the world. "The climate is damp and very hot and that
makes it necessary for women to use hair moisturizers. Our products are
favourable to these kinds of women," he said. However, Perim believes
that entry into the Arab market is not an easy task. "It is a very
competitive market," he explained.
Established in 1977, SNC, which is the Portuguese acronym for
Natural Solutions in Cosmetics, produces 250 tonnes a day. Company
products are on the market under brand Kanechomn. They may be found
throughout Brazil and in 23 other countries, in Europe, South America,
North America, the Middle East and Africa. The company target is to
turn 30% of production to the foreign market.
One company differential is the quality centre that is divided into
research and development, physical-chemical centre, control and
specifications of raw material, microbiological control, technical
centre and control of finished product. Among the SNC releases are roll
on deodorants, a shampoo line, children's conditioners and creams to
straighten hair. The company employs 700 people.
