Clarins to Launch New Doctor Brand Called My Blend by Dr Olivier Courtin
The use of the name Dr Olivier Courtin (Clarins' managing director)
as part of the brand is a clear attempt by the French company to tap
into the growing market for medically inspired skincare.
"The market is driven by doctor brands, newness, and premium
items. […] We have been looking at [the doctor brand] sector for some
time and it is something that obviously interests us," comments Courtin.
"We could not have done this under the Clarins brand name, as
the concept is quite medical and it is very different from the Clarins
lines […] but I am a doctor and can use the title, so I did," he says
with a laugh.
The brand consists of eight day and night creams to which the
customer can mix one or two of seven boosters, chosen according to skin
type.
"The consumer wants more tailored skincare and by mixing
products she can create a cream that specifically responds to the needs
of her skin. She can create up to 200 different skincare
possibilities," says Courtin.
The My Blend by Dr Olivier Courtin line, retailing at around
$120 for a product, will launch exclusively in the US in around 12
points-of-sales in March 2007.
