KEEP IT CLEAN
Men have
approximately 15 per cent oilier skin and significantly larger pores
than women do. It is very important that no matter your skin type, you
clean your face every day. Depending on your skin type (oily, normal,
dry or combination), there are products that treat and enhance it.
Deep cleansing
is important; it keeps pores clear, skin healthy and you looking good.
Deodorant soaps shouldn't be used on your face, they leave a detergent
film behind and this may irritate your skin and clog your pores.
EXFOLIATING
A good scrub is
essential for a healthy clean skin. It will remove dead skin cells and
smooth the surface of your face. Avoid scrubs with extra coarse
granules, they will tear and damage the skin.
Note: a good scrub will invigorate you, not hurt you.
MOISTURISING
Moisturising is
a necessity. After cleansing and shaving, always use a light
moisturiser on your face. Use one with absolutely no alcohol in it,
alcohol pulls moisture and can irritate the skin.
For dry skin use an intense moisturiser like pure vitamin E or aloe vera oil.
As skin ages, it
has to work harder to maintain its elasticity. Astringents and toners
with glycolic or Alpha Hydroxy acids actually can reduce the pore size,
and help avoid ingrown hairs. They are aggressive and have quick
results.
MATTE IT
Skin that is too
shiny does not look healthy just greasy. Blot the excess oil away by
using blotting papers or a light oil absorbing powder. These options
give natural finishes.
SPF
Don't forget
your lips. Use a lip balm that has SPF15 or more. Avoid over exposure
to the sun. Sun damage leads to hiperpigmentation (brown spots), which
can develop, into serious skin disease.
Some brands have skin care designed specifically for men e.g. Neutrogena, Clinique, L'oreal, marykay.
STAY IN SHAPE
Eat right- Keep
vitamins such as C and E in your diet regimen. Exercise increases
oxygen to the tissue, which keeps skin looking young. Stay away from
excessive alcohol, smoking, fatigue and stress. Not only can these
factors lead to premature ageing; they also decrease facial circulation
making you look older.
